Painting Conservation & Research Center, Painting Museum,Dambulla

History
The Painting Museum of Dambulla was opened at year 2003 & after that is was re-opened in a new face at year 2009 as a Painting Research, Conservation Center, Painting Museum under the report of B. P. No. 177.12.01 by Hon. Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wikramanayaka, Hon. Minster Mahinda Yapa Abewardana who was the Minister of National Heritage & Cultural Affairs, pervious Director General of CCF who was Prof. Sudarshan Senevirathne. Presently, there also has an architectural conservation section. At this moment it is supervision under former Hon. Minister T.B. Ekanayaka & former Director General Porf. Gamini Adikari.

Vision & objective -

  • Held the studies according to painting methodologies make colors, use colors & combination, traditional implement & provide a chance for the researchers who like to study those topics.
  • Identify the decay of paintings which are at stupa & conserve those.
  • Training the related officers for held the painting researches & conservations.
  • Protect the place as a painting center which has thousands of paintings from primary pattern to pre- modern period.
  • This is the only painting museum which exhibit only paintings & also it causes to help the glory of Sri Lanka.
  • Promote knowledge in special lectures under the professors, doctors & lecturers according to subjects of Archaeology, History, etc...
  • Held the seminars & practical training programs for develop the painting art in the society & also for protect it.
  • Protect the oldest paintings of Sri Lanka own this place.  
  • Promote both of local & foreign visitor rates.

Specialization –

  • This is only place which held painting researches & conservations of Sri Lanka.
  • This also is only painting museum which can be seen thousands of paintings under various eras of ancient Sri Lanka.
  • There has a painting store which have 760 painting collection of 114 old temples.
  • It is the largest press store of CCF.

The Painting Museum has opened all days of the year from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm.
