The Central Cultural Fund’s Abhayagiriya Project commenced archaeological excavations of the pond adjacent to the eastern entrance of the Abhayagiri Stupa on 20/03/2025 at an auspicious time.The aim of this work is to preserve the structures belonging to the pond, conduct formal documentation, and then present them to the public for architectural preservation.The excavation work commenced with the blessings of the Venerable Maha Sangha with the participation of Project Manager Thusitha Herath and project officers.
