Bambarakanda Falls
per person
The stunning Bambarakanda Ella horsetail waterfall soars from the Central Highlands’ Kalupahana Mountains. A Horsetail Fall maintains some touch with a rock face that is almost vertical as it drops. Bambarakanda, the tallest waterfall on the island, is ranked 299th among the world’s tallest waterfalls with a vertical height of 263 meters (863 feet). Bambarakanda, a branch of the Walawe River, comes from Kuda Oya, which is located just 5m from the A4 highway in the steep pine-forested slopes of Badulla District. The location is excellent for picnics and photography. At the base of the falls, there is a network of natural pools where you can also take a shower before your meal if you prefer to have a picnic.
There is a trail at Bambarakanda that interested hikers can use to ascend to the top of the falls. A sizable lake that feeds the main falls is located on the crest, along with a lovely tiny waterfall. The unobstructed views of the eastern plains offer great photo opportunity as well. The greatest time to visit Bambarakanda Ella is from March to May because this is when the water flows the best during that time. The falls receive far less water during the dry season, which typically lasts from June to September. It can be challenging to get close enough to view during the rainy months of November to February.
